Mario "Chocolate" Johnson

About Mario "Chocolate" Johnson

Mario Lavell Johnson is a Dallas rapper and producer who was friends with The D.O.C. and Vanilla Ice.
He eventually became Vanilla Ice’s opening act and took up the name Chocolate.
Right before Vanilla Ice recorded “Ice Ice Baby”, he asked both Chocolate and the D.O.C. to give pointers on how to improve the song.
Chocolate would later try to take credit for the song and much of Vanilla Ice’s early work.
When The D.O.C. signed with Death Row Records, he took Chocolate with him.
He only released one album with Death Row Records, the 1993 “Life-N-A-Day”. He would stay on with Death Row up until it’s initial collapse as an uncredited producer for a number of songs. In 2015, he wrote “Talking to My Diary” for Dr. Dre. He claims to be currently working with Eminem and Aftermath Records.
