Rise to fame:
The initial release of the now hit single wasn’t such a successful one. Marleek was relatively new to the rap scene and consequently had a low amount of views at the release of ‘Birth of a Winner’, however, this was soon to change.
On the 1st of December 2018, a full 2 years and 12 days after its release, Marleek’s underappreciated work of art was featured on a series on ‘UK Drill Insiders’s YouTube channel; 'WTF Bars’. Specifically, it was on the 3rd episode of his self made series and it was the 3rd song to be shown in the video. The video eventually made its way to the YouTube recommendations page, where it was presented to a very large audience. This meant a large amount of exposure for Marleek and clearly many were interested in his works after this. The view count on Marleek’s video shot up and comments poured in. Even on instagram, UK based meme pages reposted memes about Marleek’s iconic verse, meaning he now had multiple platforms upon which his fans would now share his content. Marleek was now acknowledged as a successful rapper and would enjoy his fame for years to come.
After effects of his fame:
Marleek was obviously overjoyed at the fame and money his efforts had brought him, however what happened next was unprecedented, to say the least. After he had gotten so much exposure and gained so many fans, it was natural that he would also gain haters. These abhorrent trolls infested the comments of his video, turning out in numbers never seen before for the sole purpose of hurting Marleeks feelings. They eventually succeeded and Marleek succumbed to the intense pressure. He disabled the comments. However, not all was bad. Since he had gained so many views and so much exposure, he was able to make immense profits and improve his already lavish lifestyle. On Instagram, he also gained many loyal follower, who, to this day, quote his amazing verse from ‘Birth of a Winner’.
Culturally, Marleek changed the entire scene forever. Even four years later, his view count is rising steadily, with many fans returning to witness his astounding verse. To this day, his staggering verse is recited all over the world, by people from entirely different backgrounds. It is such a quintessential part of life that anyone can merely say ‘wagwarn for battyman’ and people will immediately think of Marleek. This is a feat that hasn’t been achieved by anyone before, not to such a large scale and this successfully. It is safe to say that Marleek will forever be the king of UK rap.
