Mycroft Holmes

About Mycroft Holmes

A fictional character from AC Doyle’s stories of “Sherlock Holmes”
Mycroft is Sherlock Holmes' elder brother. He is superior to Sherlock in observation and deduction.
Mycroft appears in only two stories – “The Greek Interpreter” and the “Bruce Partington Plans”. He lodges in Pall Mall and is the member and co-founder of the Diogenes Club.
In the Adventure of the Greek Interpreter, which is an introduction to Mycroft, Holmes describes him as a person who lacks energy and ambition.

He will not even go out of his way to verify his own solution, and would rather be considered wrong than take the trouble to prove himself right"
–Sherlock Holmes

However, in the “Bruce Partington Plans”, Holmes said that he had not told Watson the absolute truth as he had to be discreet. He said that Mycroft had a unique job of his own.

Well, his position is unique. He has made it
for himself. There has never been anything like it before, nor will be again. He has the tidiest and most orderly brain, with the greatest capacity for storing facts, of any man living….The conclusions of every department are passed to him, and he is the central exchange, the clearinghouse, which makes out the balance.“
– From The Buce Partington Plans

The character was portrayed by Charles Gray in a video series by Granada Television
