Phil Jones, drummer and percussionist, has performed live and in studio with Crabby Appleton, Tom Petty, (drums and percussion on Full Moon Fever, Freefallin', I Won’t Back Down, Runnin' Down A Dream) Rolling Stones (Voodoo Lounge), Roy Orbison (You Got It), Joe Walsh, Waddy Wachtel, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, JD Souther, Terry Reid, Randy Newman, Cracker, plus many more. Based in Los Angeles, California, Phil is always looking for high quality music to play and musicians to play it
In 1979, Phil was hired by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers as a percussionist and toured with them from 1980 through 1984. He is credited on 16 of the 48 tracks on the new Tom Petty Live Anthology collection. During those years he also recorded with TP and the HB’s in the studio, appearing on Hard Promises, Long After Dark, Live, and Wildflowers. Phil also played nearly all the drums and percussion on Tom’s most successful studio album, his first solo effort entitled Full Moon Fever. He is the drummer and percussionist on Freefallin', I Won’t Back Down, and Runnin' Down A Dream, which are Petty classics and his biggest hits.
Phil, in recent years, has also played with Joe Walsh’s touring band, Johnny Rivers, Jack Tempchin, Bernard Fowler, and, most recently,with Pegi Young and The Survivors and Jason Sinay recording projects as drummer, percussionist, and producer.
