Positive Noise

About Positive Noise

Positive Noise were a Scottish new wave band from Glasgow that was originally formed in 1979 by brothers Ross (lead vocals), Graham (keyboard, backing vocals), and Fraser Middleton (bass guitar, backing vocals), as well as Russell Blackstock (guitar, backing vocals) and Les Gaff (drums).

In 1980, they first released two songs, Refugees and The Long March, to the compilation mini-album Second City Statik – A Glasgow Compilation. What followed afterwards were two singles released in 1981: Give Me Passion and Charm. Both singles became top-ten hits on the UK Independent Chart.

In May 1981, their debut album, Heart Of Darkness, was released. The album reached number 4 on the independent chart. Afterwards, Ross Middleton departed to form Leisure Process, with Russell Blackstock taking over on lead vocals.

After Ross' departure from the band, their style shifted to a more synth-pop type of sound, with their second album, Change Of Heart, which was released in 1982. The album also was on the independent chart, reaching number 21.

In 1985, the band would release their third album, Distant Fires, with John Telford taking over on drums and John Coletta on guitar. However, the album wasn’t as successful as their two other albums, and ultimately, the band split up shortly afterwards.
