The Pica Beats

A Seattle-based indie pop outfit, the Pica Beats were formed in 2005 as a solo project for singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Barrett (2007’s self-released All Mysteries Solve Themselves was primarily a one-man show).

By the time the Pica Beats had released its sophomore project, Beating Back The Claws Of The Cold, the band had expanded to display a full lineup – bassist Garrett Kelly, drummer Colin English, keyboardist Adam McCollom, and backup vocalist Alice Sandahl.

Evidently, the members were temporary additions, as subsequent albums (All The Wives Are Demon Spies, Durian Shakes and other lost songs, Cold Suspension, Imaginal Disc) have been almost entirely solo efforts from Barrett.

Though a several-year hiatus followed 2015’s Durian Shakes and other lost songs, the Pica Beats rebounded with a 2020 comeback album, Cold Suspension. Barrett’s most recent project is Imaginal Disc, an eight-track album released on July 2nd of 2021.
