The Top 25 Rap Albums According to Rolling Stone

So I was listening to “One Time 4 Your Mind” off of Illmatic and wanted to see who produced the beat. Looking at Illmatic’s wikipedia page, I noticed that the album ranked 400 overall on Rolling Stone Magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums. I had seen this list before, and I decided to write down all of the rap albums I saw on the list. I arrived at 25 hip-hop/rap albums out of 500. I am simply interested in seeing what guys think of Rolling Stones’s List.

Criminal Minded lyrically sucked, By All Means Necessary is a better album, BDP fans know that it increased social-political force in the hip hop industry, that album changed the game

Put Illmatic at number 1 and take the chronic and raising hell out of the top 10. And then I’d say its perfect.

Illmatic for me was better than Paid in Full, sure PIF did usher in a new image for hip hop, but look at the filler contained in that album, it takes a perfect ten to around an 8. To me Illmatic had no filler whatsoever, simply beautiful rhymes, simple beats, everything.

This list is horrible along with the fact that their reviews on rap albums are so hypocritical at times. They are missing so many great Hip-Hop albums.

Lol at The Eminem Show ahead of Illmatic. Actually, lol at 17 fucking albums ahead of Illmatic. That list is bullshit.

The fact that the SSLP is number 10 is extremely sad. They try to put historic albums above lyrical ones, but paid in full is number 7. The face they put two run-DMC albums in understandable, but is a slap in the face to Slick Rick, BDP and all over 80’s pioneers who put out better albums than Run DMC.
