Here’s my suggestion.
I’ve seen a lot of lyrics set up in a manner like this
[Verse 1: Murs]
I never wear nothing smaller than a 34 jean
Or maybe 32, but at least I keep ‘em clean
[Fashawn]
And I don’t rock nothing bigger than 758 sized fitteds
A fly nigga, word to my regime
[Murs]
I’m devastating, the one that every rapper fears
etc etc etc
Basically, these songs that have more than one artist going back and forth on a verse are HARD AF to pay attention to! There are so many fucking spaces, and it just gets distracting.
I, however, have a solution.
On the Add New Song link, there is a portion at the bottom that speaks on formatting.
Rap Genius takes pride in its hygienic lyrics – please stay in tune with Rap Genius lyric style:
– Lyric format
– Try to make the song look like a poem
– Put the rapper’s name in brackets above his verse, like: [Verse 2: Lil Wayne]
If we are really doing lyric format, wouldn’t it just be better in the circumstances in which there are multiple artists transitioning to just do things like this?
[Verse 1: Murs and Fashawn]
[Murs] I never wear nothing smaller than a 34 jean
Or maybe 32, but at least I keep ‘em clean
[Fashawn] And I don’t rock nothing bigger than 758 sized fitteds
A fly nigga, word to my regime
[M] I’m devastating, the one that every rapper fears
[F] Elevating, floating past the stratosphere
[M] I heard you got a buzz going on for yourself, that’s fucking awesome
[F] Ain’t that the same kid we seen in South by in Austin?
[M] I started out with the
[F] Youngins on the strip
[M] But now all I get his hella money when I spit
yada yada yada, continue that formatting until the hook, then:
[Hook: Krondon]
Come take a trip ‘round my way
A place where weird kids don’t play
Everyday
You see the caution tape when somebody caught a case
And I’m just trying to stay in my lane and beat the papers up
Staying papered up, pape-pape-papered up
Papered up, pape-pape-papered up
Papered up, pape-pape-papered up
I beat them haters up, staying papered up
In my honest opinion, this would work A LOT better, ESPECIALLY if this format was listed under the RapGenius lyric style guidelines. It would be similar to a script for a play
