R&B Genius?

I was just wondering if RG has ever thought of making a Genius Branch for R&B. I mean I know that there are some R&B songs here on RG but there are also some kind of Rock albums on here too, but there’s a Rock Genius….

Me and @Dyazz think this would work only because the genre as a whole has Soul, Jazz, Funk, Pop/R&B and contemporary R&B all under it’s umbrella. I think in terms of a music genius it has to be the next step.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I don’t know why this hadn’t already been an idea. You would assume the next door neighbor to Rap & Hip-Hop was R&B.

If they make it,

There’s a TON of drake R&B songs that could go on there.

We have enough people here who listen to non-rap music, I mean just in the last days Janelle Monáe and The Weeknd both released albums and there was as much talk about it on the forum as on a lot of rappers.

I’d say this is a cool idea, especially since one can include other stuff (like voice, melodic patterns and pace variations) to music that’s actually sung.

@Support That’s actually an interesting idea to include voice, melodic, patterns, and pace variations. How do you think genius can make incorporate that in the branch? Will it just be included in the Annotations?

Do you mean modern R&B or Rhythm n Blues?
I think I already know the answer tho.

@Maboo @LEMON @TomiFischer (I don’t really know anybody else that’s important lel)

R&B is huge on RG! There’s tons of it because it goes so well with hip-hop/rap

@TomiFischer I know that I’m just wondering why there isn’t a branch just like Rock and Poetry. Many people consider poetry the same as rapping, but it gets a totally different branch?

I was listening to Aloe Blacc’s music the other day, and yes the song I linked is on RG but any other songs of his are not. But then again Frank Ocean has a strong standing on RG, and I thought this was mainly because he’s linked to OF, a rap collective. So now I realize that only singers who are connected to rap will get fully recognized on RG: The Weeknd, Chris Brown, Miguel, Frank Ocean. and singers who you will not see on most rap tracks are not given appropriate recognition.

The solution, separate R&B and Rap on RG and give it it’s own branch. Now R&B fans, who don’t like rap, and don’t think that they will find any R&B on a site called Rap Genius will now be able to find all there favorite music too.

And annotate it for the songs that have alot of complex stories, and feelings that some listeners that find it to hard to understand.

If you can get enough support behind you for something like this, I’d def be down to make a push for an R&B Genius forum. I honestly believe though that there is too much overlap that it wouldn’t make sense to separate RG and R&BG

Come on bruh, that’s just straight up disrespectful to the genre. We aren’t just talking Frank Ocean and the Weeknd here; we’re talking Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder; we’re not just talking top 40 R&B, we’re talking Jazz, Soul and Blues.

Honestly, I don’t see why, I mean I know it’s not an absolute necessity but it is and will be needed. The only real problem I can think of would be the colour, seeing as purple, pink and blue are taken.
