1st Annual Rap Genius User Rap Battle

Alright, though the idea was not mine and was in fact that of a regular user, props must be given. So, everyone can thank beezyrapperholic for the inspiration.

Rap Genius is home to a lot of MCs that want to go pro or at least want to get recognized. So we’re going to hold an official rap battle on the site for all of these students, baggage handlers and checkout clerks to get their name on the front page and some recognition from peers.

You may sign up by simply posting in this thread that you’re interested and/or PM me to sign up. The registration deadline for the battle is 7 days from now; Saturday, March 31st, 2012 at NOON (12PM) CENTRAL TIME.

The bracket will be announced the following day on Sunday, April 1st, 2012. In addition to the bracket being announced, the first round’s beat will also be announced and the participants will then be given ONE WEEK to complete, edit, and send me your 1st round rap. Either via email or PM through Rap Genius. The following Sunday, I will then post the raps onto the site.

After some serious thinking, due to the fear of people voting twice, getting strangers to vote, or vote rigging, the best way to determine a winner will have to be a panel of judges. And to eliminate favoritism, on the night before the first round goes live on the site, the contestants will all decide who the five judges of the tournament are. After the raps have been submitted, the elected judges will have 5 days to send me their reasoning behind whom they chose. The explanations as to why they voted for who they voted for will then be posted for all to read. This method also eliminates Sanjaya’ing. Contestants that are rapping will not be allowed to be a judge. RG users will volunteer themselves for judging and like stated above, the night before the first round goes live, contestants of the tournament will select a panel of five judges from the pool of volunteers.

Late entries will NOT be accepted. Organizing all of this and posting it the following day is going to take some serious time and your tardiness will not be awarded. Raps entered to me after the deadline will be disqualified and will automatically lose the round.

Raps entered using the wrong beat will also be automatically disqualified. You will have 7 days to finish your round’s rap and send the rap to me, if you have used the wrong beat and the deadline has not yet been reached, I’ll send it back to you and let you know that you need to select the correct beat.

Sunday, April 8th — – Raps posted onto Rap Genius
April 8th thru April 12th — – Judge deliberation
Saturday, April 14th — – Judge’s decisions and explanations announced with bracket standings
Sunday, April 15th — – Second round beat announced, second round begins
Saturday, April 21st — – 2nd round rap deadline
Sunday April 22nd — – 2nd round raps posted onto Rap Genius
April 22nd thru April 26th — – 2nd round judge deliberation
Saturday, April 28th — – Judge’s decisions and explanations announced with bracket standings
Sunday, April 29th — – Third round beat announced, third round begins
Etc.

Rules Outline:

Use only the beat that was announced
Submit your raps to me via email or PM (Odysseus6x@hotmail.com)
Submit your raps using YouTube or SoundCloud clips
Use 16 bars to battle
Late entries won’t be counted and automatically disqualified

Use this thread to volunteer yourself to be a judge in the rap contest and to register to MC for the contest.

This looks awesome. Can’t wait t see how it turns out. There’s a shit-tonne of talent on this site, both musically and composing. Although I can’t rap worth a half-shit, I’d like to volunteer myself to judge, I’d love an opportunity to do something like that for the community.
