Mos Def - The Ecstatic

What do you guys think about this album? I’m not exactly a huge Mos Def fan, but i really enjoy the Black Star album and Black on Both Sides. I was giving this LP here a listen, since I’ve seen it in some “Best of the 00’s” lists, and all I can say is that I find it very weird. I mean, it is far from being bad or anything, but I was wondering why do people praise it so much …

I only liked about half the songs. It’s decent. I don’t ever see it on any lists though. .

As I heard it from beginning to end I found really well constructed but the few times I put it on shuffle I was confused and felt wierd afterwards

It’s his best album easily for me. Thus far it’s his greatest realization of experimental beats/song structure and singing (like True Magic) and making a cohesive album (like Black Star) minus filler (like Black on Both Sides). If you don’t love Stones Throw style production, you won’t love the album. I’m obviously a stan of theirs and have always felt Mos was one of the most talented rappers to ever bless the mic even though he his albums outside of Black Star never really make me constantly revisit them in their entirety like The Ecstatic does. It pretty much has his best SONGS (not verses) of his career to me too.

Dopest album he’s made so far. Dopest album in the history of albums.
