Thoughts on Metriod’s place and where it’s headed?

I think Nintendo is too scared to make a new game, after the reaction that Other M got. I mean, the series can only go up from here, it’s like the Sonic franchise after Sonic 06. I think they can make a very good game, tho.

I think they’re in need of that one idea Nintendo always builds new franchise entries upon.

You know, they always find one nice idea and implement it on the game to the maximum. Maybe something involving the GamePad would be impressive, but we all know Ninty wouldn’t settle for “just using it as a gyroscopic scanner”, especially since it’s already been done in ZombiU.

We also all need to realise that Metroid has successfully explored two gaming styles, 2D-metroidvania and FPS, which are currently the most prolific gaming styles (2Dmetroidvania on the indie scene, FPS on the big budget scene). So finding that one idea must be very difficult. Because Nintendo will never ever settle for one of their games being “yet another sidescroller/shooter”.

They need the click, and they won’t put out any Metroid title until they find it, even if it takes thirty years.

Samus still lives and is remembered through Smash Bros. (as is Capt. Falcon), so we can considere Metroid on the back burner rather than shelved.

To be honest, Nintendo doesn’t have to do anything big with the Metroid series. If they just release something that is largely reminiscent of the older entrees, maybe has one or two things that spin the whole thing enough, they literally have a series revitalizing game on their hands. Hell even if they decided to steal for their one or two things for the spin, it would probably still be lauded and enjoyed by many.

My favorite games in the series were metroid fusion and metroid zero mission. I wasn’t really into the FPS ones. If they were to go back to their original style but an updated version perhaps I would be interested and think they could do good with it.
