Yonkers Lyrics

[Intro]
Uh, Wolf Haley, Golf Wang, go

[Verse 1]
I'm a fuckin' walkin' paradox, no, I'm not
Threesomes with a fuckin' triceratops, Reptar
Rappin' as I'm mockin' deaf rock stars
Wearin' synthetic wigs made of Anwar's dreadlocks

Bedrock, harder than a motherfuckin' Flintstone
Making crack rocks outta pussy nigga fishbones (Haha)
This nigga Jasper tryin' to get grown
About five, seven of his bitches in my bedroom (Hey)

Swallow the cinnamon, I'ma scribble this sin and shit
While Syd is tellin' me that she's been getting intimate with men
(Syd, shut the fuck up)
Here's the number to my therapist (Shit)
You tell him all your problems, he's fuckin' awesome with listenin' (Haha)

[Chorus]
Uh, Wolf Haley, uh, Golf Wang
Uh, Wolf Haley, Golf fuckin' Wang

[Verse 2]
Jesus called, he said he's sick of the disses
I told him to quit bitchin', this isn't a fuckin' hotline
For a fuckin' shrink, sheesh, I already got mine
And he's not fuckin' workin', I think I'm wastin' my damn time

I'm clockin' three past six and goin' postal
This the revenge of the dicks, that's nine cocks that cock 9's
This ain't no V. Tech shit, or Columbine

But after bowling, I went home for some damn Adventure Time
(What'd you do?) I slipped myself some pink Xannies (Yeah)
And danced around the house in all-over print panties
My mom's gone, that fuckin' broad will never understand me
I'm not gay, I just wanna boogie to some Marvin

(What you think of Hayley Williams?)
Fuck her, Wolf Haley robbin' them
I'll crash that fuckin' airplane that that faggot nigga B.o.B is in

And stab Bruno Mars in his goddamn esophagus
And won't stop until the cops come in

I'm an overachiever, so how about I start a team of leaders
And pick up Stevie Wonder to be the wide receiver? (Cool)
Green paper, gold teeth, and pregnant golden retrievers
All I want, fuck money, diamonds, and bitches, don't need 'em

But where the fat ones at? I got somethin' to feed 'em
It's some cooking books, the black kids never wanted to read 'em
Snap back, green ch-ch-chia fuckin' leaves
It's been a couple months
And Tina still ain't perm her fuckin' weave
Damn

About

Genius Annotation

“Yonkers” is the first single off Tyler, The Creator’s debut album, Goblin and is widely considered as his breakout song.

The song’s title is named after the city of Yonkers, New York. Tyler said that the song was made as a joke to mimic New York hip-hop beats:

Dude, niggas don’t know that that beat was made as a joke. I was trying to make a shitty New York beat and we was just rapping like we was from New York like we were retarded. And then, I just had some random verses and I was just like ‘I’ll just record it to this beat, this beat is kinda cool.’ And then niggas really liked it.

Despite its controversial lyrics, the song became critically acclaimed on release. Its music video earned Tyler the Best New Artist award at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. It was also nominated for Video of the Year but lost to Katy Perry’s “Firework.”

Genius Answer

During a GOLF podcast with Vince Staples, Tyler spoke about “Yonkers”, saying:

Niggas don’t understand that that beat was made as a joke! I was tryna make a shitty New York Beat, and we was just rapping like we was from New York! Like we were retarded, and then I had some random verses and I was like I’ll actually record it to this beat. Like this beat is kind of cool, and then niggas really liked it and that’s so nuts, because that shit was a fucking joke that song like I made that beat in 8 minutes.

This Wolf Haley guy, the guy that I really want to be, he’s just wild, he’s just fucking crazy. He wears those cool ass shorts and the cool ass button ups and shit. And that’s me talking to him and him just taking over my fucking head that whole song. The “walking paradox, no I’m not”, that’s me and him going at it with in my head ‘cause paradox means it’s like contradicting, taking back, you know, shit like that. So when you go back and listen to the song, every line that I say it’s like contradicting itself. I say, “green paper gold teeth and pregnant girl retrievers is all I want”, and then I say, “no, fuck money, diamonds and bitches, don’t need them.” Those are basically the same things in different words like a bitch is a pregnant dog, that’s a pregnant girl Retriever. I contradict myself and that’s me saying, “No, I don’t want that,” but Wolf Haley saying, “Yeah, you do.” It’s just a big mind fuck.
