Oh you played me dirty, your game was so bad
You toyed with my affliction
During the peak of his career in the early part of the millennium, Maxwell was known as a notorious ladies man. While some claim such men have an inability to love a specific woman, others claim it is the ability to love multiple women that is the basis for this affliction.
In a 2009 article from Upscale Magazine, Maxwell mentioned a situation during his temporary hiatus:
I felt the sting of heartbreak. I definitely felt like I met the love of my life. It was a timing issue. She was where she was, and she’ll only be there once.
This was likely the inspiration for “Pretty Wings” and represents Maxwell’s vulnerability even at times in which no serious relationship can really be established. Despite this, the woman in question exploited this vulnerability in some ways, rather than ending the relationship before either of them ended up heart by the truth.
