We didn’t make love
We celebrated its invention
Confetti on the mattress – I used to have those images
Tonight I came home they were just embers in the fire
Along with my hard drive, no notes, no goodbye
They went from something amazing to nothing at all seemingly instantaneous.
They didn’t just ‘make love’, in the way ‘making love’ is used to describe getting down and dirty and physically hittin' it. They celebrated that they were in love, that their relationship existed and the notion of love as whole, as a beautiful thing.
And so it was a total celebration, with confetti like a parade or a big party. And the sex, damn, it was something worth celebrating too ‘cause it was so good. And he had images of that in his memories, along with a few NSFW pictures of them in bed…
But then he came home and she had burned all those photos (‘embers in the fire’), and deleted all the digital copies of his computer (‘along with my hard-drive), with no chance for him to even say goodbye.
