I'm Ike Turner, turn up, baby, no, I don't play
Now eat the cake, Anna Mae said, "Eat the cake, Anna Mae!"

Meaning

Hov caused a lot of controversy with this lyric. Ike Turner’s wife, Tina Turner released a film based on her life story in 1993 that included a scene in which Ike, addressing Tina as Anna Mae, her real name, enjoins her to eat the cake, shoving it into Tina’s face when she won’t eat it.

Lil B the Based God said a very similar line in his song “Wonton Soup.”

Multiple news outlets questioned the lyric, claiming Jay was “mocking domestic violence” and even Beyonce’s fans were upset.

In a review of the album, Noisey’s Kitty Pryde originally mistook the lyric as:

Is this the same exact verse? I’m pretty sure it is. WAAAAAIT HE JUST SAID “I EAT THE CAKE, ANIME”. JAY Z JUST FUCKING USED THE WORD ‘ANIME’ AS A PUNCHLINE. THIS IS THE BEST SONG I’VE EVER HEARD.

This sparked even more controversy. She later apologized on Tumblr and it has since been deleted.
