Devil on me, Spitalfields and AllSaints
Lupe is still setting the scene with this line. He mentions the clothing he’s wearing (AllSaints Spitalfields) and how he’s more interested in his outer appearance than his inner; calling this practice a devilish act.
The whole line has a separate meaning also. Lupe is saying the devil is on his tail. And Spitalfields, a town now located in Greater London, became famous for religious refugees who were being persecuted for their own thoughts and beliefs by the powerful city guilds in the City of London, of the time. (check Huguenots OR Revocation of the Edict of Nantes).
