If you’ve seen any jailhouse movie where someone is being electrocuted, the scene usually shows the lights in the city or jailhouse getting dim when the executioner flips the switch.
The double-meaning/metaphor comparison here and throughout the whole song is between fame and execution. If you try to extend your fame too long it will lead to the execution of life, morals, and creativity.
Literally, this is playing on the spotlight that Lupe has been talking about. If you try to extend the time of the spotlight, Everyone will get pissed off and annoyed.
