Kendrick enjoys believing in a higher power. He usually writes from our generation’s perspective, basically saying how humanity searches for faith and wants something to believe in.
This is also a reference to “His Pain II” off of BJ’s Pineapple Now-Laters where Kendrick’s character lies on his back and stares at the ceiling contemplating his blessings after a series of events which resulted in undeserved protection from what he believes is a higher power. “His Pain II” was originally a part of this song but was made into its own.
