A lot of speculation
On the monies I've made, honeys I've slayed
How is he for real? Is that nigga really paid?

from Jay Z – Intro: A Million And One Questions/Rhyme No More Lyrics on Rap Genius

Meaning

Jay’s rapid rise to stardom and celebrity has called into question everything about himself in the eyes of his fans and detractors. Suddenly, his private life (how many women he might have slept with) is interrogated in the same breath as his business acumen (“the monies I’ve made”), the former a direct consequence of his celebrity, the latter the trope on which his entire claim to his past as a hustler is hinged (“I thought I told you cats I’m not a rapper”). Everything about him, now, is up for dissection, analysis, picking apart. Not content with his extensive autobiographical oeuvre, the world wants to question ever last bit of his claims to authenticity.
