Because it is coming from the child, it shows us that he is only taking on board what his mother tells him, denoting a certain unbalance in his upbringing. Not that what she’s saying is negative in any way, but he needs both parents in his life.
Also, MYH addresses his father as if HE HIMSELF is an adult, which shows us that he, like many other young men raised without a father, is growing up much quicker than he should be since he’s now the ‘man of the house.’
