In reference to drug addiction, once someone gets addicted, he/she remembers the high the drug created and hopes to create it again by acquiring it again, but with continuous use, the highs created require more and more of the drug — meaning the original amount of the drug does not live up to the hopes of the addict.
When you get the person back after losing him/her, that person who comes back is never the same neither are you.
He could be talking about the hiphop world also. Like in the song “Almost Famous”, he said he always want to be famous, but when he’s already famous (like recently) he felt like it’s not as what he thought it would feel like. He lost his freedom (like in the song “Marshall Mathers” or “25 to life”)
