Dem a laugh, never tak mi serious
So many goals and thoughts as potholes I pass everyday

Instead dem want to ride upon dem bredda back
No tears or cares if him even did stop or drop

About

Genius Annotation

Overall, this song is about taking the easy way out. Anthony B is saying that nobody wants to put in the hard work, they just want the rewards – them want their belly full but no sweat pon them brow. He asks who should get the blame when one doesn’t have enough if that person is depending on others to begin with.

In the first verse, he talks about pushing an old hand cart through the streets as a metaphor for when he started off deejaying. People might’ve laughed and did not take him serious (he’s also speaking generally). Instead of helping and contributing to relieve the economic frustration that plagues poor people “they” (the governement and fellow man) take advantage of and prey on them ‘til they drop dead.

Second verse, Anthony states he “feels pleased when he takes a likkle ease,” he’s relaxing after working all day, probably “giving thanks and praise to Jah” (by lighting the chalice). He says in this verse that his hard work brings him rewards. He is comforted by doing his part contributing to society.

Third verse, he’s talking about his (the) struggle again and finding success. He had many times with empty belly and no one around to support him emotionally. But when his life changed everyone wanted to be his friend. They will take everything he has even if he dies. This makes him sad.
