Genius Annotation

“The Recluse” is the fourth track on Cursive’s album “The Ugly Organ” and was released in 2003.

The song runs through the thoughts of a man after he wakes up in a woman’s bed “the morning after.” He reflects upon his low self esteem, inadequacy in relationships and why it is he can’t seem to stay in one that doesn’t inevitably end. The song uses the metaphor of a fly in a spider’s web to describe his view on relationships and his apparent helplessness in them going wrong.
