Head Up High Lyrics
Hey
[Verse 1]
I'm under pressure, underpaid and working overtime
I mix the pleasure with the pain, I make it rain tonight
Ooh-ooh
No one said it would be easy
Ooh-ooh
Even if you don't believe me
Even on my darkest days
[Chorus]
I get knocked down but I just keep my head up high, high, high
Oh, high, high, high
Stuck on the ground but I just keep my head up high, high, high
Oh, high, high, high
Keepin' my head up high, high-high
Keepin' my head up, head up
[Verse 2]
I got a headache and a heartache but it's summertime
I'm runnin' circles tryna find another finish line
Plug in that power system, light up that optimism
Even on my darkest days
I get knocked down but I just keep my head up high, high, high
Oh, high, high, high
Stuck on the ground but I just keep my head up high, high, high
Oh, high, high, high
Keepin' my head up high, high-high
Keepin' my head up, head up
Keepin' my head up, head up
[Bridge]
Ooh-ooh, no one said it would be easy
Ooh-ooh, even if you don't believe me
Even on my darkest days
[Chorus]
I get knocked down but I just keep my head up high, high, high
Oh, high, high, high
Stuck on the ground but I just keep my head up high, high, high
Oh, high, high, high
Keepin' my head up high, high-high
Keepin' my head up, head up
Keepin' my head up, head up
About
“Head Up High” is Fitz and The Tantrums frontman Michael Fitzpatrick’s debut solo single as FITZ. It was inspired by his time being stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, and also by the idea of continuing to create music even after reaching the ripe age of 50.
The song is in a more pop-rock style compared to his work with the Tantrums, and notably features acoustic guitars, an instrument that Fitzpatrick says was only ever included on one Tantrums song.

When I wrote that song, it was a couple months into the pandemic. I was feeling overwhelmed, depressed. I walked into my studio and picked up an acoustic guitar and started angrily strumming these pretty chords. I was like, ‘I’m under pressure, underpaid, and working overtime.’ I needed to write a song to bring me out of my funk, really.
