Great commander in the sky
sheds another tear today
one more warrior has been called home
leaving the bounds of earthly life
his spirit freed from the body
to be welcomed by his comrades

Living through a war
surviving in a faraway land
fighting those you are ordered to
risking life and limb
even your very sanity
to make the world safe again

Now who cares or cries for you
who can speak kindly of your deeds
what can be said of you
that can ease your loved ones pain
how can it be that one so brave
can slip so silently into your grave

Where are your friends
those who cheered
when you came marching home
the warrior protecting his land
is forgotten now that war is won
quietly...silently you lived and died alone

Do not shed a tear now
do not say kind words
do not act sad and at a loss
do not grieve or mourn
do not give false feelings
the warrior has gone home
