OTL 68: Excerpt #2 “Afrika Bambaataa and Cutting on Beat” Lyrics

Grand Mixer DXT: When I met Afrika Bambaataa, he could not cut on beat, at all. And for me, I'm a drummer, so timing is everything. And I thought he had these great records, but he couldn't cut them on beat. It was horrendous. So I spent time with him showing him how to cut his records on beat, and that was the trade off - me and Bambaataa. You know, I got access to understand his records and I showed him how to cut those records

SameOldShawn: Yeah, I was going to say. You worked with him pretty closely for a while - what did that do for you career-wise, connections-wise?

Grand Mixer DXT: Well, I would say we worked not for a while, in a beginning when it was all starting, he moved up to my neighborhood. Again, I would go to him and say "Man, you got great records but you can't cut 'em." And then he would ask me, "Man, why won't you cut these records?" He wanted me to DJ with him. But I had my own crew
