America is seemingly the land of luxury, materialism and excess. However, the ugly truth is that 15.2% of Americans live in poverty. And as America is left in “tatters on the floor” like animal fur, Lupe “sheds”. However, instead of fur, he is shedding tears.

Continuing the weed metaphor, he makes a homonym between tokens and toking (a verb for inhaling weed).

Lupe is possibly borrowing an idea from peer and collaborator Ab-Soul, who stated:

Nugs big as Chucky Cheese tokens and I’m toking

He’s also saying that to get to the level he’s at now, he had to play “the game” of being a rapper in the corrupt industry (note the reference to tokens from game machines).

“Work” is, of course, drugs. “Hood” signifies doubly; it invokes the automotive part as well as the spatial configuration of neighborHOOD, thus continuing the ghetto ideas above.

This is probably Lupe’s second best trunk and hood metaphor. As he spits on Revenge of the Nerds, “I’m far from the hood like limousine trunks.”

The doctors try to replace “the wildness,” or whatever form of rebellion the women is committing, with “the tame,” or complacency.

While lobotomies were not limited to women, a disproportionate number of them were performed on women, sometimes as a way to rid them of melancholy, moodiness, or particularly rebellious behavior (though lobotomies were also used as a treatment for mental illnesses such as schizophrenia). One of the most famous lobotomies was performed on Rosemary Kennedy, the sister of President John F. Kennedy.

Nas doesn’t really want the girl/game anymore you can take her if you want her, Nas already got all he ever wanted from the Hip Hop game and sees the way she’s whored herself to all the other MCs over the years.

The “She’s yours” is not only a statement (Hip Hop belongs to the people), it’s also a nod to the T La Rock classic “It’s Yours” (which Pete Rock cut up lovely for Nas' “The World is Yours”).

Notice how he says, “I fuck Hip Hop” as opposed to Scarface’s “fucked” in past tense. Nas still has some sexing up to do before he’s finished.
