there’s nothing wrong with this construction, and in fact it’s fairly common in both written and spoken english (just do some google searches for stuff fitting the “[noun] like me [verb]” template). geeks like me is a noun phrase that’s acting as the subject of the verb phrase would recommend. there’s not much sense in saying that it’s incorrect because the word “me” appears next to the word “would” and “me would” sounds wrong; that’s just parsing the sentence incorrectly.

I just don’t think that’s true. What makes a noun phrase inherently objective? Whether an NP is “subject” or “object” depends on the role that NP is playing in the sentence. Replace “geeks like me” with “geeks like James” – clearly you can have both “I bully geeks like James” (where “geeks like James” is the object) and also “Geeks like James bully non-geeks” (where “geeks like James” is the subject).

“geeks like me” just isn’t a valid noun phrase! it should ALWAYS be “geeks like i (am)”, but this (correct) noun phrase can be either objective or subjective
