Even if it makes others uncomfortable, I will love who I am

Let me just say, before talking about this song, the vibe on this track is crazy.

Anyway, the seamless way in which Janelle turns an old school funk jam into a human rights speech, says enough about this song. As soon as you hear “Are we a lost generation of our people?”, you know it’s real. And that leaves me with one final question:

Easily my favorite rap song this year (Telegraph Ave too good for rap) and, as much as I tried to front like Drake’s album was better, I always loved this song.

The second verse is just :WHEW:

From “Pain is joy when it cries/it’s my smile in disguise” to the very end; “It’s a match made in Heaven/All that’s missing is the reverend/All that’s missing is a blessing/I hope God gets the message”. And, would you believe, I haven’t mentioned that this was co-produced by the God, Yeezus himself, Kanye West?

A great introduction to a truly great album.

As soon as it goes from the Delusional Thomas mini-intro and the beat drops, you’re captivated. From the religious references to his family problems, Mac shows a brilliant overview of what fills his mind as it were earlier in the year.

The way he ends and starts both verses is great but I personally prefer the ending to the second verse:

Can’t decide if you like all the fame/three years ago to now it’s just not the same/I’m looking my window ashing on the pane/Shit, wonder if I lost my way

and then the Delusional Thomas outro makes it even better.

I see music. It's more than just...what I hear. When I'm connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or emotion. A memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies and they're all connected to the music. And I think that's one of the reasons why I wanted to do a visual album; I wanted people to hear the songs with the story that's in my head, cause it's what makes it mine. Beyonce could be referring to some sort of synesthesia, in which she associates images/emotions to a certain sound. (Sound familiar?).

Essentially, she wanted to make sure the world got the full package with this album and not the label-managed and monitored version that we would usually get from artists as popular as Bey.

Obviously referring to his Tumblr Letter, released prior to his album due to speculation about his use of gender pronouns. Frank actually says the date and that it was written around Christmas in the letter.
