This is a baseless assertion. The center-left movements of social democracy and American liberalism may want this, but the farther left one goes the more contempt for the state is found. If this statement is true, then anarchism simply does not exist.

Furthermore, on what grounds does the right want less government outside of involvement with capitalism? Does restrictions on drugs, pornography, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and the rights of POC generally not count as increased government? Even further to the point, if one goes all the way to the far-right, the role of the state intensifies with things like fascism and Nazism.

Referring to the 1984 Miner’s Strike, which was crushed under the Thatcher Government in early 1985. The result of the defeat was that the National Coal Board was privatized, many miners were arrested and lost their jobs, and trade unionism in Britain was weakened generally.
