Here cuts to the meat of the tension: Anarchism, despite many strawman arguments to the contrary, is a deeply radical, complicated and literary-heavy school of political thought. It takes time to understand and wrap your head around the concept of an idea so well outside the norm.

The miners, however, are seeing friends in the anarchists, rather than political comrades of some form. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the anarchists, and they’re now left scratching their heads as to what, if anything, to do with a bunch of kids who don’t understand their principles.

Anarcho-syndicalism proved very popular during the early 20th century, and was the economic system of organization in Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War.

Bookchin’s writings were invaluable in Occalan’s conversion to anarchism, and eventually lead him to abandon Marxism-Leninism altogether and establish his own ideology of Democratic Confederalism, which combines feminism, green politics, and libertarian socialism.

Syndicalism is a radical form of socialism, often though not exclusively of an anarchist variety. It suggests that the means of production be divided up into syndicates, and their affairs managed by representatives who work co-operatively to manage the economy. A simple way to think of it is “union socialism”.

This refers to the Paris Commune, a 2-month period wherein the people of Paris seized control of the city and created a revolutionary socialist society, the gravity of which gave inspiration to revolutionaries of all stripes from Peter Kropotkin to Vladimir Lenin.
