Before renaming my review comic to Molly and Jay, on extremely rare occasions I’d give an album the rating of “Downright Strange”. This is one of the two times (the other being Black One) that I called an album that. Unlike with Sunn O))), it’s not so much that the music is strange, it’s that our perception of this album is. Hybrid Theory is pretty average overall, and yet it possesses a strange polarized opinion of it. Some view it as a classic, some view it as one of the worst metal albums ever. The perspective is surreal, I swear.

I view walking away from a piece of media early as a serious thing for a critic to do. With the sole exception of this album, I have never left an album unfinished, even the stuff I hated. I walked away not just because this album is crap (it is), but because it’s so insufferably boring. One of the worst things about French Montana that I discovered was his aversion to being interesting. For God’s sake, Young Thug is terrible but at least he does something that makes him stand out musically! French Montana is just a piece of paper!

I have a strict anti-NSBM/anti-fascist policy with music, and because of Hellhammer’s repugnant white nationalism, Mayhem is included on that listing. However, Deathcrush was made before Hellhammer joined, and in the period where Necrobutcher hadn’t yet temporarily left the band. Honestly? I don’t understand why Mayhem fanboys love this thing. I’ve heard other stuff Mayhem’s done, I’ve heard other black metal, and this just really doesn’t hold up. Feels more like death metal than anything else, and yet I’ve seen people online talk about it like the freaking spawn point of the second wave or something.

Buenaventura Durruti (Google him, he’s a damn hero) said it best:

I got diagnosed with depression in mid-2016, and it spiked real bad in late 2016. While I’m doing OK at the moment, and have a great support base of friends & family, you can only do so much.

So, within communism there’s an ideology called Marxism-Leninism, sometimes called Marxism-Leninism-Maoism (this ideology, by the by, is different from Marxism and Leninism).

Marxism-Leninism is the ideological name Stalin chose, and subsequently became the modus operandi of the communist movement throughout the 20th century. A “tankie” refers to Marxist-Leninists who choose to deny or defend the war crimes of ol' uncle Joey. So yeah, fuck them.

So guess how far left my politics went after the election? :D
