Here is a prime example of “Blashyrkh”, a recurring theme in Immortal’s lyrics. Blashyrkh is said to be a frozen hell, littered with demons and war.

The band created Blashyrkh to mirror their feelings of isolation growing up in the town of Bergen, Norway.

Referring specifically to PE’s song, “Sophisticated Bitch,” which if the title wasn’t obvious enough, was quite misogynistic.

Chuck realizes that in hindsight, the same powers that attack Black men will attack black people as a whole. Thus, he comes to the conclusion he was wrong to make a song that was hostile to Black women.

Xasthur is the legendary American black metal project formed by Scott Connor, better known as Malefic. Though deeply influenced by the DIY aesthetic of Burzum and Graveland, Xasthur has neither the subject matter nor politics of these acts. In lieu of Satanism and anti-Christian blasphemy, Xasthur’s work is about astral projection, hatred, depression, darkness, and suicide.

The project began in 1995 before Connor gave up music in 2010, only to recently revive Xasthur as an acoustic project.

Putting it somewhat lightly. While the good that the Nation of Islam has done is undeniable and invaluable (though some Muslims argue it’s theology questionable), Farrakhan is as much praised as he is criticized.

These criticisms (the most damning of which is a full-blown listing as a hate figure by Southern Poverty Law Center) include that he is considered anti-Semitic, homophobic, and a black supremacist.

Continuing with the entendres in this track…

• Mike tells the listener that there is no upper echelon in society held by celebrity (or as J. Cole put it…). We’re all human and thus equals in a social setting. The only time such opposition should come into play is when you purposefully make an enemy out of someone.

• Mike essentially spits the antithesis of the ever infamous Control verse, telling the rap game that he’s not out to make enemies unless they want to make an enemy of him.

• “Hellfyre” shouts out OME’s label, Hellfyre Club.

• “Hellfire” is also associated with the supernatural, and thus is magical.

• While Open Mike is spitting cold things to you, the lines he spits are so dope that you can’t help but associate it with hellfire.

The religion here being fame. Americans have a tendency for celebrity worship, ranging from buying albums to social media dedication. Mike feels this idolatry is problematic and thus seeks to “pray” for the humanizing of celebrity.
