“Nighttime” is a song by Brooklyn R&B singer Richie Quake. The song premiered on international fashion magazine Oyster with an interview. “Nighttime” marks a shift from Quake’s prior works in that, while still employing his signature singing voice, he takes on a rapping cadence.

“Weekend” was co-written by lil aaron, whose most famous track on which he appears as an artist is the Y2K collaboration “Damn.” Though Icona Pop says this word differently than in the hook of the latter song, he’s found great success with the word.

So psyched to see “Millennial” capitalized. With “internet” finally losing its capitalized status, I needed a new word to be unnecessarily capitalized, and thank goodness they’ve picked my favorite.

In addition to the “Great Wars” referring to the dimensions and the World Wars, another interpretation arises regarding Newsom’s interest in philosophy of time shown on the album. Friedrich Nietzsche, writing in Ecce Homo, called the revaluation of all values the “great war,” and Newsom herself refers to Nietzsche’s concept of eternal return on this very album.

In this context, a new understanding of the album can arise. When Newsom claims that half the things she says she’s ashamed of exactly halfway through the album, this is indicative of her value system undergoing a reformation. As Carl Pletsch writes in “History and Friedrich Nietzsche’s Philosophy of Time,” “[Nietzsche sought to prove that history (time) was declining] in order to destroy all prevailing ideals, while making room for the superman, the will to power, and for the ideal of the eternal return of the same.” History, as the saying goes, repeats itself, and this cyclical nature means that the great conflict of current and transformative values is unending.

I wouldn’t say this is entirely true – Monster, when it was released, saw either lukewarm or no critical reception from major outlets. Fans immediately gravitated to his return to and expansion of form, but, as Meaghan Garvey put it in her excellent essay on Monster one year later,

Why did we initially focus on petty lines about taking a girl to Chipotle while he was howling his addictions to whoever was still listening? When he passed out in the champagne room, alone, singing about suicide? When he was dancing in front of his friend’s grave dressed in bone-white, clutching a double cup in a barren field—the future and the past frozen in nihilist purgatory?
