Many a great mind tells of the eyes being the window to the soul. For Earl, hip-hop’s proverbial snakes in the grass can be identified by a look into their soul. They are conniving and deceitful people, who pretend to be friends with Earl but only want to benefit from his fame and money.
Earl used a similar line in his guest verse on Gangrene’s “Play it Cool” track:
I personally think that this line is talking about the people of Odd Future, since they’ve had a falling out. Perhaps this line is talking about why he stopped working with Odd Future for now
Often the saying goes “the eyes are the window to the soul”
In his NPR interview he takes this very seriously. He believes you can know a man by looking into his eyes. In the next line his mother taught him how to read peoples eyes, just like my parents did. Its really a nod to the saying mentioned above.
This isn’t just about gazing into the soul. It’s also a reference to “snake eyes” in gambling. Snakes eyes is the most unluckiest thing you can roll in a game of dice. It’s a fitting term since snakes are attributed to deceit and betrayal. Earl is saying that he looks into the eyes of others and he see 2 dice that have landed on snake eyes, which warns him of their betrayal or unloyalty.

Also, after this line, he uses a lot of ’s' rhymes which links to the snake idea, as when he says them, its as if even he is one of the snakes, hissing away.
