Incoherent failure of a house

from F. Scott Fitzgerald – The Great Gatsby (Chapter IX) on Rap Genius

Meaning

Gatsby’s house is referred to an “incoherent failure of a house” because it does not fit in to the setting and stands out among the other houses on West Egg. Gatsby’s house also serves as a metaphor for Gatsby in society because he cannot fit in to the old wealth society no matter how hard he tries or how much effort he puts into appearing aristocratic.
