Illusions of oasis making you look twice
In African American history, we live in the post civil rights era, and we could possibly have reached a “post racial moment.” In the United States, we have elected a black president, Barack Obama.
Even though black people have come a long way in terms of rights since the slavery era, it is possible that this “oasis” of equality and racial blindness means that a significant amount of culture has been lost. Instead of making the world accept black culture for what it is, they could have just assimilated into white society. While that might be a white person’s idea of perfection or the ideal of someone like Geraldine from The Bluest Eye, it is in no way perfect.
