So before I take the stand, and put this bible in my hand
Son, let me say this
She reveals to him that she will be taking the stand and testifying against him. She thinks this is the only way she can save him.
Also when she says “rather see you locked up than dead” it proves that she thinks that jail is the best place for him at the moment. When she says “only you would say that I’m selfish” she’s saying that her son would say she’s selfish because of her actions and right after this line she says “before I take the stand…” which reveals what the “selfish” action is. Lastly, throughout the whole song she has been showing him tough love as a way for him to realize he needs to change.
