[Chorus] Walk away me boys Walk away me boys And by morning we'll be free Wipe that golden tear From your mother dear And raise what's left Of the flag for me
[Chorus] Walk away me boys Walk away me boys And by morning we'll be free Wipe that golden tear From your mother dear And raise what's left Of the flag for me

In the “Whiskey on a Sunday” DVD (2006, SideOneDummy Records), up to the point Dave King plays the song, he is speaking of the last words he spoke to his father before he died, and how he regrets only saying what he had time to. The song is a farewell to his father and his Irish heritage and an homage to the centuries long struggle against British rule on the island.
