Crackerbox Palace Lyrics
I was so young when I was born
My eyes could not yet see
And by the time of my first dawn
Somebody holding me they said
[Chorus]
I welcome you to Crackerbox Palace
We've been expecting you
You bring such joy in Crackerbox Palace
No matter where you roam know our love is true
[Verse 2]
While growing up or trying to
Not knowing where to start
I looked around for someone who
May help reveal my heart - someone said
While you're a part of Crackerbox Palace
Do what the rest all do
Or face the fact that Crackerbox Palace
May have no other choice than to deport you
[Chorus]
I welcome you to Crackerbox Palace
We've been expecting you
You bring such joy in Crackerbox Palace
No matter where you roam know our love is true
It's twoo, it's twoo
Some times are good, some times are bad
That's all a part of life
And standing in between them all
I met a Mr. Greif - and he said
[Chorus]
I welcome you to Crackerbox Palace
Was not expecting you
Let's rap and tap at Crackerbox Palace
Know that the Lord is well and inside of you
[Chorus]
And we, welcome you to Crackerbox Palace
We've been expecting you
You bring such joy in Crackerbox Palace
No matter where you roam know our love is true
[Outro]
You bring such joy in Crackerbox Palace
No matter where you roam know our love, know our love is true
About
“Crackerbox Palace” is a single released off of George’s album Thirty Three & 1/3 in 1977.
The song is a bit quirky. According to the album booklet, George went to a music festival where a guest compared him to comedian Lord Buckley, who George had admired for years, he was later invited to a party at Buckley’s old home Crackerbox Palace, George wrote the name down on his cigarette pack and later wrote this song.
The song describes George’s life, and to an extent, everyones' life. George claims “sometimes are good, sometimes are bad, thats all a part of life.” The song did peak at 19 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song was also released with a music video in where George plays around his home (that he entitled “Crackerbox Palace”) with elves and other strangely dressed character. His future wife Olivia Harrison, and his friend and member of Monty Python Eric Idle make an appearance in the video as well.
