This story is about dating a girl that is somewhat out of Von Pea’s normal social circle, and ultimately how her friends destroyed his interest in her.
After describing this woman that he is interested in, he feels obligated to go to a party hosted by her friends and is made uncomfortable by their lack of respect for his life choices and accomplishments. Ultimately his discomfort and feeling unwelcome or an outsider causes him to sneak out of the party without telling anyone. While walking home in the rain he begins to think about his life choices and seems to have been made insecure about it because of what happened at the party. When the girl realizes he has left she texts him, and he politely cuts her off due to an apparent difference in social class, or at least how pretentious her friends are about it.
It plays on insecurities and people’s biases, as well as moments of depression that occur because of it. It also describes how people in Brooklyn and New York have changed, and folks that have been there their whole lives can be alienated by it.
