Reintroduce 'em to honesty, show 'em that they need more
The difference between the pretenders and the Kendrick Lamars
J. Cole speaks on all ends of realness, he is showing them the truth with this album. He goes on to say that there are pretenders in the rap game, and then there are rapper like Kendrick Lamar (J. Cole and Kendrick are very close friends) which also only speak realness and are the truth in rap.
You don’t know what you’re missing if you’ve never had it. In the same way Cole hopes to open ignorant listeners minds to the more substantial branch of hip hop (like Kendrick) by drawing them in with a mainstream single and hoping that they listen further.
He also might be referenceing the song by Kendrick called “Real”.
