This entire chapter is a genealogy. Like the others, they are commonly called boring (and worth skipping) by Atheists and Christians alike.
But they were probably important to the Israelites, since different tribes, based on their genealogies, were promised different parts of Canaan.
The genealogy is considered to reflect the geographic and political situation of the Assyrian period, when the various parts of Genesis were reduced to writing.
