This song off of Gnarls Barkley’s sophomore album The Odd Couple is about Cee Lo Green’s mother, who was paralyzed in a car accident when Cee Lo was 16, and passed away when he was 18. He says in an interview about the song with The Observer Music Monthly:
I’m saying: I understand – if you gotta go, I understand why. ‘Cause I can’t understand not being able to move from the neck down.
