Vasoline Lyrics
[Verse 1]
One time a thing occurred to me
What's real and what's for sale?
Blew a kiss and tried to take it home
[Chorus]
Isn't you, isn't me
Search for things that you can't see
Going blind, out of reach
Somewhere in the vasoline
[Verse 2]
Two times and it has rendered me
Punch drunk and without bail
Think I'd be safer all alone
[Pre-Chorus]
Flies in the vasoline we are
Sometimes it blows my mind
Keep gettin' stuck here all the time
[Chorus]
Isn't you, isn't me
Search for things that you can't see
Going blind, out of reach
Somewhere in the vasoline
One time a thing occurred to me
What's real and what's for sale?
Blew a kiss and tried to take it home
[Chorus]
Isn't you, isn't me
Search for things that you can't see
Going blind, out of reach
Somewhere in the vasoline
[Verse 2]
Two times and it has rendered me
Punch drunk and without bail
Think I'd be safer all alone
[Pre-Chorus]
Flies in the vasoline we are
Sometimes it blows my mind
Keep gettin' stuck here all the time
[Chorus]
Isn't you, isn't me
Search for things that you can't see
Going blind, out of reach
Somewhere in the vasoline
[Bridge]
You'll see the look and you'll see the lies
You'll eat the lies and you will
[Guitar Solo]
[Pre-Chorus]
Flies in the vasoline we are
Sometimes it blows my mind
Keep gettin' stuck here all the time
[Chorus]
Isn't you, isn't me
Search for things that you can't see
Going blind, out of reach
Somewhere in the vasoline
You'll see the look and you'll see the lies
You'll eat the lies and you will
[Guitar Solo]
[Pre-Chorus]
Flies in the vasoline we are
Sometimes it blows my mind
Keep gettin' stuck here all the time
[Chorus]
Isn't you, isn't me
Search for things that you can't see
Going blind, out of reach
Somewhere in the vasoline
About
Genius Annotation
Vasoline is the second single from Stone Temple Pilots‘ sophomore album Purple. It was written by Scott Weiland.
According to Scott Weiland, the song is about “feeling like an insect under a magnifying glass.”
In his autobiography, he adds that the song “is about being stuck in the same situation over and over again. It’s about me being a junkie. It’s about lying to Jannina [his first wife, Jannina Castaneda] and lying to the band about my heroin addiction.”
The song topped Billboard’s Album Rock Tracks chart in 1994. It also peaked at #38 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Airplay chart and #2 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart.
