The pigs are wearin' blue, and in a year or two We'll be goin' up the creek in a great big canoe What we gonna do, save me and my brothers? While Q-Tip and Phife appeared together for the first time in 1989 on the Native Tongue Decision remix of De La Soul’s “Buddy,” this first song on their first album symbolizes the “birth” of the Tribe. Following the crying baby intro, the song then drops some heavy drums from Junior Mance before the smooth jazz loop from Grover Washington Jr.’s “Loran’s Dance” comes in. Tip and Phife provide their introductions while the ending interlude also serves as an introduction of the crew by member Jarobi White over a loop from Eugene McDaniels' “Jagger the Dagger.”
