This song marks the beginning of a new phase of E-40’s career. The double LP Revenue Retrievin': Day Shift / Night Shift was not only the beginning of an ongoing run of multiple album releases by Forty Water, it was more importantly his return to independence. After 2008’s release of The Ball Street Journal, E-40 had fulfilled his major deal with Warner Bros. and is since signed to his own imprint Heavy On The Grind Entertainment.
He certainly chose this song as the album’s opener because it states his return to independent hustling in the rap game.
