Making sure niggas don't steal my clothes
Trying to make a path so I fufill my goals
Trying to take a bath so I can heal my soul
A little bit of laughter to conceal my woes
Who gone save me?
This are the essence of all of the thoughts going through Jay’s mind whilst homeless. These powerful motivations are probably what pushed him to rhyme and be the artist he is today. We can hardly imagine how powerful these memories are if these thoughts and emotions come to him every time he’s alone and daydreaming. The final line is a desperate call for help which all homeless people must experience at one time or another — it only emphasizes the harsh reality of his situation. There isn’t anyone coming to save him, yet he’s giving the illusion that he’s okay (the laughter). The conflict between inner feelings and exterior expression can tear apart a person. I’m glad it didn’t tear him apart. But perhaps it did, if the experience of being homeless was powerful enough to bring him to remember it so often.
