I wrote like Edgar Allan, I was po' like Edgar Allan
Edgar Allan Poe was a famous author and poet. Ab-Soul plays on his last name, saying he was poor (po'/Poe). Much like this track’s lyrics and atmosphere, Poe was known for some eerie literary works (i.e. “The Tell-Tale Heart”). Soul wrote down what he saw while he was tripping so he wouldn’t forget.
Edgar Poe was also poor.
Big L has a line where he says: “I wasn’t ‘poor’, I was po', I couldn’t afford the ‘o-r’”: possible reference.
Reminiscent of this.
